College Essay Intensive

Writing the college essay is one of the most crucial (and stressful!) parts of the application process, but your rising senior can get that task checked off the list in five days this summer.

In the College Essay Intensive, students will:

·      Find out what colleges want to know about you in your essay—and what they don’t!

·      Generate ideas for sophisticated and revealing personal essays

·      Work to complete an advanced draft of a Common Application essay

·      Tackle “Why do you want to attend this college?” questions

·      Learn strategies for answering scholarship and supplemental essay prompts.

·      Polish their writing with exercises in college-level concision, clarity, diction, narrative structure, and style.

·      Prepare for college-level composition

Students will write in a relaxed, personalized workshop environment with Northern Highlands’ librarian Julie Goldberg, an experienced English teacher, editor, research consultant, and writing coach. Ms. Goldberg holds master’s degrees in education, English and American literature, and in library and information science. She is also the editor of a literary journal and a published author of fiction and essays. She has taught writing for over twenty-five years.

The College Essay Intensive is a one-week course, offered both in person and online. Students from any school are welcome, so bring a friend!
